       Vanni and I

       Wall and Ivy

A sonnet without rhyme
Dedicated to my son, Vanni

October 6, anno domini, 2016

You, the ivy,
I, the wall.
Hold on to me
Spring, summer, fall, and winter.
Your light green dress adorns me
When sun and brook melt the snow.
In the white heat of summer
You cast cool shadow over me.

And I support you,
When the winds of autumn
Carry red and yellow leaves away.
And when all sleeps under the snows of winter,
I breathe in you,
And you in me.

      Vanni und ich

     Efeu und Mauer

Ein reimloses Sonett
Gemidmet meinem Sohn, Vanni
Oktober 6, anno domini, 2016

Du, der Efeu,
Ich, die Mauer.
Ranke Dich an mir,
Fruehling, Sommer, Herbst, und Winter.
Dein hellgruen' Kleid schmuecket mich
Nach der Schneeschmelze.
In der Weissglut der Sonne
Beschattest Du mich.

Doch Halt geb' ich Dir,
Wenn im Herbst Rot- und Gelbblatt,
Vom Winde erfasst, verweht.
Und wenn im Winter alles schlaeft unter Schneedecken,
Atmest Du in mir
Und ich in Dir.
